Notes
The name of the work is mentioned in the index of the copy, and the name of the author is mentioned in the copy record. In the copies of the work registered with the inventory numbers Esad Efendi / 03741-016 and Ragıp Paşa / 01474-007, the name of the work was recorded as er-Risâletü'ş-Şem'iyye and the work was attributed to Ümmü Veledzâde. It was written by Taşköprizâde Kemâleddin Efendi on page 1a of the copy, and the entire copy was written by his brother Ebû. There is a record that it was written with Hâmid Çelebi's calligraphy. Approximately every ten pages in the copy, Taşköprîzâde, son of Taşköprîzâde Kemâleddin Efendi, Mehmed İbrâhim b. Kemaleddin Mehmed b. It has the seal of Ahmed el-İstanbulî. On page 1a, next to the index of the works in the copy, the inventory number and the number of lines are recorded. The phrases “prose” and “poetry” are marked with a red overline, and a comma is placed between sentences with red ink. There are callers at the ends of the leaves. The numbering of the pages of the copy is probably incorrect due to the spreads being broken away, and it needs to be renumbered. When specifying the number of pages of the works and in places where page numbers must be written, such as seals and records, the numbers on the pages are taken as basis in order to avoid confusion. Secîli is a treatise from Arabic literature written in the form of artistic prose and including poems.
Sample Text
(102b) Good news, O people of sight. A light from the lights has come to you. A light that appeared and its light became luminous. A light like a fire over flowing water. A light like a shooting star, a piercing shooting star that overshadows the darkness of the night. Light of day... (103a) You show me a constant smile, and fortitude and patience for what befell her while she was in perdition. If she had spoken one day, she would have said, “I think you think that I am one of the ones who warn of destruction, and I cry, so do not think that my tears will find it.” Eyes may water from so much laughter
