Notes The book is the story of the embassy carried out by the author as a messenger from Sultan Moulay Muhammad bin Abdullah to Carlos III, King of Spain, to work on concluding peace between Morocco and Spain, and to free the Muslim prisoners who were there at that time. He sent with him ten thousand mithqals of money to distribute to the prisoners. The author began his journey to Madrid from the port of Ceuta on the fourth of Dhul-Qa’dah in the year 1193 AH / 1779 AD, and he rode with it. A military ship prepared for him by the Spaniards went to the port of Cadiz, then he proceeded by land to San Fernando, then the city of Mería, then the capital of Seville, then Carmona, then Ecija, then Cordoba, Vandújar, then Aranjuez, then Madrid. He describes to us all the countries he passed through during his journey in a good and interesting description, and he singles out Seville and Cordoba with abundant and enjoyable descriptions, especially the historic Alcazar of Seville, which is in the Andalusian style, and the mosque. Cordoba, whose edifice was preserved by the Spaniards despite its transformation into the Great Church of Cordoba (Mezquita), by erecting temples and crosses on its sides and in the middle. Then he arrived in Madrid via Aranjuez, the resort of the Spanish kings. He met King Carlos III more than once, and spoke to him of the desire of Sultan Moulay Abdallah to conclude peace and liberate the prisoners. He visited the camp for Muslim prisoners in Segovia, distributed to them the Sultan’s financial gifts, and visited King Carlos in his summer palace. Baranjuez, and presented to him a draft treaty for peace between the two countries, and the King entrusted his answer to this draft to the Spanish ambassador to present it to the Sultan of Morocco. The Moroccan ambassador visited the Palace of El Escorial and looked at the collection of Arabic books, and at that time, according to the census of Al-Ghaziri, the owner of the catalog, there were one thousand and eight hundred manuscripts. Spain agreed to liberate the prisoners in exchange with the Spanish prisoners detained in Algeria. The ambassador also visited the city of Toledo, and then arranged for him The Spaniards took another way to return, so he went to Murcia, Cartagena, Florca, Basta, Wadi Ash, Granada, and visited the city of Alhambra in Granada, then Locha, then Turaif, and from there by sea to Ceuta. He describes to us all the great sights that he saw in those cities, especially the city of Alhambra. When he arrived in Ceuta, he stayed there for several weeks by order of the Sultan, and he was at that time with his entourage near Salé.
