A complete book of tafsir by Mujahid (d. 935) is available which is based on a manuscript from the 13th century AD. However, the oldest work of tafsir extant today is of Al-Tabari (d.922 AD). Some believe that he was the first man to write Qur'anic exegesis explaining it side by side with the Sunnah. Since then the process of interpretation has continued until today. In the following period, others like al-Sudi (died 745) and Suleiman (died 767) came to the fore in this field, while some of their works have been preserved in hadith collections and later versions attributed to them. A complete book of tafsir by Mujahid (died 935) is available, on which a manuscript from the thirteenth century AD is based.
