The commentary written by Rādī al-Esterābādī (d. after 688/1289) on Ibnü'l-Hācib's (d. 646/1249) ta'likāt.esh-Şāfiye, written by Zihnī Efendi, is the first concise sahar book that covers almost all the saff subjects. Esterâbâdî's Şerhü'ş-Şâfiye is a systematic commentary written on the Şerhü'ş-Şâfiye treatise. Esterâbâdî's explanations have made his work one of the main sources of the science of sarf. According to the sources, Zihnî Efendi also wrote a reference to this commentary. Ahmet Turan Arslan mentions that the work is shown as unprinted in Ottoman Authors (Bursalı Mehmed Tahir 2016: 327), but that the work was printed by the Şirket-i Sahafiye-i Osmâniye Printing House in Dersaâdet, approximately in 1290/1873. Arslan explains the reason why he stated an estimated date even though there is no date on the printed copy, by stating that Zihnî Efendi himself forgot to write the date while correcting the Şâfiye Commentary, at the end of his reference to Seyyid Abdullah's commentary. The reference to Seyyid Abdullâh's commentary was completed in 1293, and Zihnî Efendi noted in this commentary that he had corrected the Şâfiye Commentary more than two years ago (Arslan 1999: 109). Although this copy, which is thought to have been printed, is not accessible today, Arslan stated that this work was a critical edition according to the conditions of that day. He mentions that the copies obtained were reviewed and two of them were taken as basis, and the book was also corrected and prepared for publication with some necessary explanations. In addition, Arslan states that although it is not written at the beginning of the book that there is a ta'liqat, he came to the conclusion that the ta'liqat in question is this book (Arslan 1999: 109).
