Notes Publication series prepared in Germany on Old Uyghur texts.20. After four Turfan expeditions organized by German expeditions at the beginning of the century, chests of manuscripts seized in this region were transported to Germany. A significant part of these manuscripts belonging to various languages such as Chinese, Tocharian, Sogdian, Tibetan and Sanskrit consists of Old Uyghur texts. Old Uyghur studies also started with the examination of the texts captured as a result of these expeditions. Commissions were established in Berlin to classify and examine 40,000 pieces of writing from twenty different languages (Şen 2016: 43). Thus, the first publications of Uyghur texts were made by the Germans. The first publication of these texts was made by the German Turcologist F. W. K. Müller, who analyzed the Uyghur script. It was made in a volume series called Uigurica (1908-1931). Later, A. von Le Coq published the Old Uyghur texts belonging to the Manichaean circle in three volumes with the series Manichaica (1911-1922). Following these pioneering names, Willi Bang-Kaup, who previously worked on German linguistics and later turned to Turkology, was included in Uyghur research. Towards the end of the 1920s, Bang started the Turkische Turfantext series with his student Annemaria von Gabain. They published the first five volumes together between 1929 and 1931, and then in 1931 the analytical index of these five volumes (Analytischer Index zu den fünf ersten Stücken der Türkischen Turfan-Texte[= Analytical Index of the First Five Parts of Turkish Turfan Texts]) was published. This index includes the vocabulary and analytical index of the texts. After the fifth volume, Reşit Rahmeti Arat joined the team (Ercilasun 2005: 270-271). After Bang's death, Gabain and Arat continued the Türkische Turfantext series separately. The seventh book of the series was published only by R. R. Arat in 1936. During the Second World War, the publication of Uyghur texts in Europe and especially in Germany was interrupted, so the next book in the series was published approximately twenty years later. After World War II, Gabain continued the series on his own. The eighth volume was published in 1954 and the tenth volume in 1959. The ninth volume, published in 1958, was co-edited by Gabain and W. Winter. The tenth volume, which includes Uyghur narratives, was published by Gabain in collaboration with Kowalski (Ercilasun 2005: 271; Şen 2016: 43-44).TT I: Willi Bang and Annemarie von Gabain (1929).Türkische Turfan Texte I: Bruchstücke eines Wahrsagebuches.Berlin: Verlag der Akademie der Wissenschaften. The text in this volume, in which parts of a fortune-telling book were published, was later published by Arat in his work titled Old Turkish Poetry, and was published separately by Serkan Şen in Körüm Bitigadı. The text is thought to be a translation or adaptation of the I Ching, the "Book of Changes", a famous Chinese divination book. However, since it is seen that it does not match this work exactly in Chinese, it is also pointed out that it may be a copyrighted work (Bang and Gabain 1929a: 3-4; Uçar 2017: 233).TT II:Willi Bang and Annemarie von Gabain (1929).Türkische Turfan Texte II:Manichaica.Berlin: Verlag der Akademie der Wissenschaften. This volume belongs to the Manichaean circle. There are two texts in Old Uyghur. In text A here, Bögü Kağan's acceptance of Manichaeism is explained. Due to this historical event, which is known to have occurred in 762, this text (TT II A) is considered the first text of Manichaean Uyghur literature. Based on this, it can be thought that the text was composed as early as the 8th century. TT III: Willi Bang and Annemarie von Gabain (1930). Türkische Turfan Texte III: Der große Hymnus auf Mani. Berlin: Verlag der Akademie der Wissenschaften. Mani hymns were published in this volume. A very small part of this work, known in the literature as the "Manichaean Turkish Pothi Book" because it is a book arranged in Pothi format, was previously published for the first time by Albert von Le Coq in Manichaean III. Later, Bang and Gabain wanted to establish the work more completely in this volume of Türkische Turfan Texte and published a text consisting of 178 lines with its German translation. However, there are missing parts of the work. The text is written in Mani script and is in the form of a poem consisting of quatrains. TT IV: Willi Bang and Annemarie von Gabain (1930). Türkische Turfan Texte IV: Ein neues uigurisches Seğenbekenntnis. Berlin: Verlag der Akademie der Wissenschaften. In this fourth volume of the series, two text pieces, which are a confession of sin, have been published. It is thought that the two fragments here belong to the same confessional text, as continuations of each other, but do not belong to the same copy (Bang and Gabain 1930b: 5).TT V:Willi Bang and Annemarie von Gabain (1931).Türkische Turfan Texte V: Aus buddhistischen Schriften. Berlin: Verlag der Akademie der Wissenschaften. The two texts published in this volume (A and B) are different texts written on two sides of the same roll. Text A was published with the title "From a Tantra Text" and text B was published with the title "Tenfold Interpretation of Faith". These fragments were later reworked in an article by Kogi Kudara in 1980 (Uzunkaya 2017: 7) and by Uğur Uzunkaya in his doctoral study in 2017.TT VI:Annemarie von Gabain and G. R. Rachmati (1934).Türkische Turfan Texte VI: Das buddhistische Sûtra Säkiz Yüksekmäk. Berlin: Verlag der Akademie der Wissenschaften. In this volume, it was transcribed by Arat and Gabain into the London copy of the Eight Load Sutras, one of the oldest and most famous works of Uyghur literature belonging to the Buddhist circle. Based on the photograph of the large roll from the stone collection BM 8212 (104) copied by Albert von Le Coq during a brief stay in London in August 1925 (Gabain and Rachmati 1934: 3), this publication also makes use of a number of larger Berlin fragments grouped around this text, photographs of the two larger fragments in Kyoto, and finally four fragments found in Petersburg. Later, in 2010 and 2015, Juten Oda published four copies of Eight Loads, including this London copy, with a line-by-line comparison.TT VII:G. R. Rahmati (1936).Türkische Turfan Texte VII: Mit Sinologischen Anmerkungen von Dr. W. Eberhard. Berlin: Verlag der Akademie der Wissenschaften. In this volume prepared by Arat, 42 fragments, mostly related to the calendar and astrology, were published. It is understood that the texts here are mostly translated from Chinese. In these trailers; Topics include planets and their elements, planetary movements for certain years, mansions of the moon, constellations, calendar parts for various years, Manichean calendar parts, personality traits according to the year of birth, the talisman that this person should worship, the sacrificial food he should offer against dangers, and the days when it is good and bad to cut nails and hair. In this volume, which also includes fragments of the Seven Stars (Great Bear) sutra (The Lost Water is), in addition to astronomy-related texts, two medical contents, three fortune-telling and a fragment about proverbs are included.TT VIII:Annemarie von Gabain (1954).Türkische Turfan Texte VIII: Texte im Brāhmīschrift.Berlin: Verlag der Akademie der In this volume published by Wissenschaften.Gabain, Turkish pieces written in Brahmi letters were published. In the study, which includes Buddhist text fragments as well as astronomy and medical content, eight of these texts are bilingual Sanskrit and Turkish pieces. These texts with Brahmi letters have an important place in research because they reflect the sound system of Turkish in more detail (Poppe 1955: 158-159). Gabain thinks that these texts were written in a separate dialect.TT IX:Annemarie von Gabain and Werner Winter (1958).Türkische Turfan Texte IX: Ein Hymnus an den Vater Mani auf "Tocharisch" B mit alttürkischer Überzetzung. Berlin: Verlag der Akademie der Wissenschaften. A bilingual text fragment in Tocharian B and Old Uyghur is included in this volume of the series. This text is a hymn written for Mani. Its Old Turkish translation, written in Mani letters, was made in prose. In order to clarify this small text, all Turkish texts of useful size around the hymn were included in the volume (Mansuroğlu 1958: 139-140).TT X:Annemarie von Gabain (1959).Türkische Turfan Texte Berlin: Verlag der Akademie der Wissenschaften. In this volume, an Old Uyghur avadana text, originally studied by Tadeusz Kowalski, was published with Gabain's edits and additions after Kowalski's death. It is understood that the 12 fragments brought together in this volume, which tells the story of Yaksha Atavaka and the Buddha, belong to four different copies.
