Notes
Arabic supplement written by Hanîf-zâde Ahmed Tâhir Efendi (b. ?/? - d. 1217/1802-03) to Kâtib Çelebi's (d. 1067/1657) bibliographic work, Keşfü'z-Zunûn (1941-43). Hanîf-zâde's work, which he named Âsâr-ı Nevad, has the distinction of being the first among many addendums written. The work was completed on 1572/24 August 1758. Âsâr-ı Nev was first published together with Keşfü'z-Zunûn, which was published with its Latin translation by Flügel (1858: VI/525-646). There are a total of 505 books in Âsâr-ı Nev. In the work, which begins with a short introduction, the books are listed alphabetically, starting with the letter "elif" and ending with the letter "he". Flügel did not give a new serial number to the books added by Ahmed Tahir Efendi, but continued the previous serial number. Therefore, the sequence number of the first book starting with the letter alif is 14.502 and the last one is 15.505. Flugel, who published the work, states in his Latin preface that the copy he used was unique, that it had to be well preserved, and that it was brought to Europe through the Austrian orientalist Joseph von Hammer-Purgstall (1858: VI/III). After sending blessings and greetings to the Prophet, his family and companions (Flügel 1858: VI/526), he stated that the scholars, who are the heirs of the prophets, classified prose and verse, short and long books; He says that Kâtib Çelebi brought together the names of the works he saw and heard with Âsâr-ı Nevadı (Flügel 1858: VI/528) in order to supplement his work. Hanîf-zâde introduces the works in the order of name, language, author, date of writing and initial statement. Sometimes the author did not specify the language of the works and sometimes gave brief information about the authors. Of the 505 works recorded in Âsâr-ı Nev, 133 are in the letter "te", where there are many works such as history, translation and commentary. Again, the number of works in the letter "şin", of which there are many works titled commentary, is 108. It is seen that the author includes poems in the introduction of some works. One of the features of Âsâr-ı Nev is that he includes works that the author himself saw and knew, and mostly belong to his own time or recent dates. Works that are very old and will be repeated are not included. The author also included commentaries and annotations made on classical works in his own time or in recent history. Although there are many works among Kâtib Çelebi's sources, there is no source name in Ahmed Tâhir's addendum. He mostly recorded the works he saw, knew, and contemporary or recent works. It can be said that the author benefited greatly from the library and surroundings of his father, Hanif İbrahim Efendi, who was a great scholar and calligrapher. Again, Ahmet Tâhir recorded 13 books of his father, Hanif İbrahim Efendi. While recording the work titled Gâyetü'l-Merâm fî Tahrîci Ehâdîsi Şirʿati'l-İslâma, he refers to this issue by calling the author of this work "el-Hacc İbrahim Efendi, the father of the humble person" (Flügel 1858: VI/542). Gustav Leberecht Flügel Âsâr-ı Nev is included in the 525-646 pages of the VI. “Tâhir Ahmed Efendi, Hanîf-zâde”.Turkish Literature Names Dictionary.
