Notes
Amrtakunda is a Hindi (Sanskrit) work that has significantly influenced both Muslim and Christian Sufism. It was translated into Arabic by Yusuf Hüseyin as Havzu'l-Hayât. In the first Arabic translation of Amṛtakuṇḍa, an imaginary introduction was added. Here, a debate is mentioned between Bhūgar, a brahman and yogi, and Qādı Rukn al-Dīn Samarkandi, a scholarly imam who lived during the reign of Sultan Ali Mardani (1207-1212). Bhugar is defeated and converts to Islam. He then shows Amṛtakuṇḍa to this imam whom he admires. It is said that Amidi first translated it into Persian and then into Arabic. It is understood that the name of the work he translated into Arabic was Mir'âtu'l Ma'ânî fi İdrâkı'l-Âlemi'l İnsânî. In John Dupuche's study, the Italian translation of Yusuf Hüseyin's edition was used and the content was examined in ten chapters. These sections are named as follows:1. Explains the macrocosm/microcosm relationship, which is the basis of the entire text,2. Breath,3. Heart,4. Postures,5. Spirit,6. Retention of Seminal Fluid,7. Imagination,8. Death Signs,9. Spiritual 'Energies', 10.Conclusion. It summarizes the essence of Amṛtakuṇḍa and gives a few recommendations to complete the mystical journey. For the author's biography, see.
