Notes
This manuscript is an 18th-century copy of the Diwan, a famous book by Khawaja Shams al-Din Muhammad, who was better known as Hafez. The copyist information page located at the end of the page contains the name of the copyist, Muhammad Hashim, and also the date 1202 AH, which corresponds to 1787-88 AD. The production of the manuscript itself may be traced back to Iran, perhaps to the dedication to Prince Vizier Aziz Khan on pages 36b-37a. The two richly decorated open pages are composed of gilded headings that are typical of later Persian gilding styles. The blue and gold color scheme with the floral scrolls of white, pink and red surrounding the page reflect the decorative exuberance of the beginning of the book.
