Notes The Ottoman Empire is one of the periods that is not emphasized in hadith history books. Among the reasons can be mentioned the claim that no original work was done in the Ottoman Empire and that most works were in manuscript form. However, in order to determine whether they are original or not, the contents of the written works must first be analyzed. Thus, ideas can be made in the fields of hadith and hadith education in the Ottoman Empire and a contribution can be made to the history of hadith by revealing its prominent aspects and shortcomings. The subject of the study is the XVII. It is his annotation written on Kara Halil Efendi (d.1123/1711), one of the scholars of the 18th century, and Ibrahim al-Gurani, whose Nuzhe annotation on the hadith method. Kara Halil Efendi was educated in Ottoman madrasahs and worked as a professor there, and was a member of the scholarly class. He has works written in the style of annotations for different fields. He improved himself especially in areas such as logic, etiquette and aspect of unity. Fenârî's annotation is one of his famous works. The fact that he was both a teacher and was involved in copyright activities shows that he generally wrote his works during his education. Kara Halil's transition to bureaucratic positions such as Kazasker after being a professor gives information about the relationship between professorship and bureaucracy in Ottoman thought. Kara Halil, who has a professor, muhaşşî and bureaucrat personality, is an important character in terms of showing the upbringing, interests and goals of the Ottoman scholar class. In this study, Kara Halil's life is included from these perspectives for the purpose of understanding the Ottoman scholarly thought. In addition, it was mentioned that Kara Halil, who was from the Aydın region, was given the title of Boyabadî by mistake. One of the turning points of hadith literature is Ibn Hajar's work called Nuhbe and his commentary on this work, Nuzhe. Many commentary, hashiye and summary studies have been done on them. One of the annotators is Gurani, who lived two centuries after Ibn Hajar. Kara Halil made an annotation study on Gurani text. Annotation that is in written form and has not been worked on; The transfer of Egyptian scientific heritage to the Ottoman Empire is important in terms of the nature of hadith writing in the Ottoman period and the Ottoman understanding of science. Since the annotation is written up to the subject of mutawatir, which is one of the subjects of the hadith procedure, it does not cover all subjects. In the annotation; Four texts are intertwined: Nuhbe, Nüzhe, Gürânî and Kara Halil. It also includes other commentaries and annotations of Nüzhe, such as Ibn Kutluboğa. In this respect, the study gives an idea about the discussions around Nüzhe after Ibn Hajar. The discussions consist of topics such as the writing of the Nuhbe-Nüzhe text, the i'rab status of the words in the text, the purpose of the science of hadith, and mutawatir conditions. Kara Halil explains the subjects based on "language" and deals with the knowledge of fields such as grammar, syntax, and rhetoric. At this point, he benefits from Nüzhe commentaries, logic and Arabic language works. In these respects, the work gives the impression that it was written to be taught to students during the education phase. Explanation of each word with grammar aims to teach grammatical topics to the student. However, in-depth explanations are given on the topics based on grammatical issues. The work offers different perspectives by making use of disciplines such as logic, procedure and Arabic language. One of these is that in order for the hadith method to be a "science" within the scope of unity, it must have its own purpose and meaning. Again, in the work, it is seen that the rules of rhetoric and Arabic language are taken into consideration regarding the conditions of mutawatir. In the study, first of all, Kara Halil's life, scientific and bureaucratic personality will be discussed, and then his work Hâşiye alâ Hâşiyeti'l-Kürdî ala Şerhi Nuhbeti'l-Fiker, which he wrote on the hadith method, will be examined. Thus, based on the work in writing, it will be tried to contribute to the formation of an idea about annotation writing in the hadith literature of the Ottoman period.
