Esprili, müstehcen ve gaddar Yusuf el-Şirbini'nin Şaşkın Beyinleri, "kaba" kırsal kitleleri "rafine" kentsel nüfusla karşı karşıya getiriyor. Birinci Ciltte el-Şirbini üç kırsal "tipi" - çiftçi çiftçi, köy din adamı ve kırsal derviş - her birinin cehaletine, pisliğine ve suçluluğuna tanıklık eden anekdotlar sunarak anlatır.
