Tarih 11 Ramaḍān 803 (AH, Hijri qamari)
Notlar Acephalous copy of an abstract by ʿAbd al-Rashīd ibn Ṣāliḥ al-Bakuwī (عبد الرشيد بن صالح البكوي, active 14th-15th centuries) of Monuments of places and reports of the peoples (آثار البلاد وأخبار العباد) by Zakarīyā ibn Muḥammad ibn Maḥmūd al-Qazwīnī (زكريا بن محمد بن محمود القزويني, d. 1283). To the text of the abstract, known in full as Talkhīṣ al-Āthār wa-ʿajāʾib al-Malik al-Qahhār (تلخيص الآثار وعجائب الملك القهار), al-Bakuwī added the extra details of longitudes and latitudes for the locations in the text. The present copy was completed on Tuesday 11 Ramaḍān 803/25 April 1401 by an un-named scribe. It lacks the preface, the introduction to the climes, and the first 31 entries for the First Clime, opening towards the end of the entry for Ṣanʿāʾ (صنعاء). Entries for Bayḍāʾ (بيضاء) and Tins (تنس) of the Third Clime are missing, and have been added in the margin by another hand (ff. 20r-20v). Orthographic errors, especially in place names, are encountered throughout, while several entries are written out of order: see the entry for Lattakia and marginal note, ff. 37r-37v, or Bukhārā (بخارا)/Bajānah (بجانة) in the Fifth Clime, added in the wrong order (ff. 77v-78r). The copy has been foliated using the abjad (Arabic alphanumeric) system in an unusual position (outer edge of verso The back of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'v'. head margins). This foliation continues throughout a section of misbound text (ff. 47-52 and see notes in the head margins of ff. 1r, 47r, and 53r) suggesting it was added at the time of or after the rebinding. The abjad foliation starts with يب (12) on f. 2v (numbering does not remain on f. 1v due to a repair) indicating the loss of ten folios of text - one quinion quire Collection of papers folded in half and stitched together to form a gathering of folios. - from the beginning of the volume. Contents: [The First Clime] ([الإقليم الأول], ff. 1r-4r); The Second Clime (الإقليم الثاني, ff. 4r-14r); The Third Clime (الإقليم الثالث, ff. 14r-44r); The Fourth Clime (الإقليم الرابع, f. 44r-46v, 53r-73v and 47r-52v); The Fifth Clime (الإقليم الخامس, ff. 73v-92v); The Sixth Clime (الإقليم السادس, ff. 92v-103v); The Seventh Clime (الإقليم السابع, ff. 103v-107r). Ends (ff. 107r, line 12- 107v, line 3): ... Colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. (f. 107v, lines 3-6): ...وقع الفراغ من نسخه يوم الثلاثاء حادي عشر من رمضان سنة ثلاث وثمانمائة
