Notes Acephalous copy of an abstract by 'Abd al-Rashīd ibn Ṣāliḥ al-Bakuwī (Abd al-Rashid ibn Saleh al-Bakuwī, active 14th-15th centuries) of Monuments of places and reports of the peoples (Athar al-Blad wa Akhbar al-'Abbad) by Zakarīyā ibn Muḥammad ibn Maḥmūd al-Qazwīnī (Zakariya ibn Muhammad ibn Mahmud al-Qazwīnī, d. 1283). To the text of the abstract, known in full as Talkhīṣ al-Āthār wa-ʿajāʾib al-Malik al-Qahhār (Tlkhas al-Athar wa'jaib al-Mulk al-Qahar), al-Bakuwī added the extra details of longitudes and latitudes for the locations in the text. The present copy was completed on Tuesday 11 Ramadan 803/25 April 1401 by an unnamed scribe. It lacks the preface, the introduction to the climes, and the first 31 entries for the First Clime, opening towards the end of the entry for Ṣanʿāʾ (Sanâa). The entries for Bayḍāʾ (بيضاء) and Tins (تنس) of the Third Clime are missing, and have been added in the margin by another hand (ff. 20r-20v). Orthographic errors, especially in place names, are encountered throughout, while several entries are written out of order: see the entry for Lattakia and marginal note, ff. 37r-37v, or Bukhārā (بخارا)/Bajānah (بجانة) in the Fifth Clime, added in the wrong order (ff. 77v-78r). The copy has been foliated using the abjad (Arabic alphanumeric) system in an unusual position (outer edge of verse The back of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'v'. head margins). This foliation continues throughout a section of misbound text (pp. 47-52 and see notes in the head margins of ff. 1r, 47r, and 53r) suggesting it was added at the time of or after the rebinding. The abjad foliation begins with يب (12) on f. 2v (numbering does not remain on f. 1v due to a repair) indicating the loss of ten folios of text - one quinion quire Collection of papers folded in half and stitched together to form a gathering of folios. - from the beginning of the volume. Contents: [The First Clime] ([The First Clime], ff. 1r-4r); The Second Clime (Second Clime, ff. 4r-14r); The Third Clime (The Third Clime, ff. 14r-44r); The Fourth Clime (Fourth Region, f. 44r-46v, 53r-73v and 47r-52v); The Fifth Clime (Al-Iqlim al-Khams, ff. 73v-92v); The Sixth Clime (al-Iqlim al-Sads, ff. 92v-103v); The Seventh Clime (Al-Iqlim al-Sab', ff. 103v-107r). Ends (ff. 107r, lines 12- 107v, line 3): ...and cut me off from her and if I have nothing to do with it The sea from your sword does not come out of them Allah knows best about that, but this is the last thing we mentioned in the narration of the works and praise be to Allah Lord of the Worlds and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad وآله الطيبين.
