Qaṣīdah on the Soul
(A poem about the soul), also known as the
Qasīḍah Rhyming in ‘Ayn
(The Ayni Poem), by Avicenna (Ibn Sīnā, Ibn Sina; d. 1037). On the shī‘ī scholar Ibn Balkū, a student of al-‘Allāmah al-Ḥillī (d. 1325) who was in turn a student of Naṣīr al-Dīn al-Ṭūṣī (d. 1274), see Amīn,

The copy was completed at Herat on 14 Dhū al-Ḥijjah 843/17 May 1440, and the scribe, Ibn Muḥammad Amīr al-Kātibī al-Qazwīnī (Ibn Muhammad Amir al-Katibi al-Qazwini, see f. 242r, lines 10-11) tells us that he transcribed the text from the author's autograph draft (see

The commentary is followed by a page of verse in Arabic and Persian (f. 245v) and an alphabetical list of information on weights and measures taken from a book called The Physicians' Support
On Knowledge of Disease and Drug
(Takht of weights and measures according to the order of the alphabet from the book “Umdat al-Taybib fi Ma’rifat al-Idha al-Dawaa’”, ff. 246r-v).

Praise be to God for his blessing, and may blessings and peace be upon Muhammad and the infallible ones from his family, and may peace be upon him abundantly, says the poor person in need of mercy.
His Lord, Abu Al-Futuh Ahmed bin Abi Abdullah Balko bin Abi Talib Al-Awi, may God forgive his mistakes. This is an honorable poem.
It was established by the Lord Imam Farid of the Age and the One and Only Sultan of the Fadla’ of the Age, distinguished above all other peers

Opinions and sayings are the result of what is correct, and this saying is strengthened by his saying, peace be upon him, “The difference of my nation is a mercy, and God knows best and is wisest.”
