Tarih 27 Dhū al-Qaʿdah 735 (AH, Hijri qamari)
Notlar Volume one of an anonymous treatise on medicine written after Ibn Sīnā's (ابن سينا, d. 1037) Canon of Medicine (القانون في الطب), which it cites frequently along with writings from the corpus attributed to Hippocrates (أبقراط, d. ca 370 BC), especially the Aphorisms (الفصول). The manuscript is defective at the beginning, missing the beginning of chapter (مقالة) one The folios have been bound out of order and some are evidently missing. Although the manuscript has no Arabic foliation that can be used to establish the original order of folios, a number of other features could help with this. Two separate sequences of foliation in Coptic numerals can be seen in the edge or head margins of versos and run for the most part in the opposite direction to the sequence of the modern foliation. Quire Collection of papers folded in half and stitched together to form a gathering of folios. signatures in Arabic are visible in places, sometimes with indications of the number of folios (قائمة) in the gathering: quire Collection of papers folded in half and stitched together to form a gathering of folios. 8 (f. 27r), quire Collection of papers folded in half and stitched together to form a gathering of folios. 9 (37r), quire Collection of papers folded in half and stitched together to form a gathering of folios. 23 of 12 folios (f. 79r), quire Collection of papers folded in half and stitched together to form a gathering of folios. 22 of 12 folios (f. 96r), quire Collection of papers folded in half and stitched together to form a gathering of folios. 12? (f. 103r), and quire Collection of papers folded in half and stitched together to form a gathering of folios. 21 of 10 folios (f. 132r). Catchwords are found on ff. 26v, 36v, 86v, 96v, 99v and 122v. This volume of the text is divided into seven chapters (مقالات) each subdivided into sections (فصول) with an eighth chapter announced at the end of the volume. The table below lists the starting and ending folios, when known, of the surviving chapters and sections. Since the folios are out of order, these starting and ending folios are not meant to represent folio ranges, and on closer analysis of the text some sections may need to be reassigned to other chapters in cases where chapter headings containing section titles do not survive in full (chapters 1, 2 and 4). When the number of sections in a given chapter is stated in the surviving chapter heading, this has been put in rounded brackets; when the number of sections has been determined or estimated by the surviving sections, this has been put in square brackets. When the chapter title is unknown and has been surmised on the basis of the surviving sections or when words have been added to the translation of the title for clarity, these have been put in square brackets: [Chapter One: Anatomy, 42 sections] ([المقالة الأولى في التشريح], defective at beginning, ends f. 55v) Section 13 (starts f. 5v, ends f. 6r); Section 14 (starts f. 6r, ends f. 2v); Section 15 (starts f. 2v, ends f. 8r); Section 16 (starts f. 8r, ends f. 10r); Section 17 (starts f. 10r, ends f. 13r); Section 18 (starts f. 13r, ends f. 14v); Section 19 (starts f. 14v, ends f. 16v); Section 20 (starts f. 16v, ends f. 18r); Section 21 (starts f. 18r); Section 23 (starts f. 21v, ends f. 23v); Section 24 (starts f. 23v, ends f. 25r); Section 25 (starts f. 25r, ends f. 26v); Section 26 (starts f. 26v, ends f. 28v); Section 27 (starts f. 28v, ends f. 29v); Section 28 (starts f. 29v, ends f. 31r); Section 29 (starts f. 31r, ends f. 32v); Section 30 (starts f. 32v, ends f. 33v); Section 31 (starts f. 33v, ends f. 34r); Section 32 (f. 34r); Section 33 (starts f. 34r, ends f. 35r); Section 34 (starts f. 35r, ends f. 36r); Section 35 (starts f. 36r, ends f. 41v); Section 36 (starts f. 41v, ends f. 42v); Section 37 (starts f. 42v, ends f. 45r); Section 38 (starts f. 45r, ends f. 45v); Section 39 (starts f. 45v, ends f. 53v); Section 40 (starts f. 53v, ends f. 54r); Section 41 (starts f. 54r, ends f. 55v); Section 42 (f. 55v); Chapter Two: Causes (21 sections) (المقالة الثنية في الأسباب, starts f. 55v, ends f. 57v); Section 1 (starts f. 55v, ends f. 69r); Section 2 (starts f. 69r, ends f. 72r); Section 3 (starts f. 72r, ends f. 73v); Section 4 (starts f. 73v, ends f. 74r); Section 5 (starts f. 74r); Section 8?
