Ms. 562 v.1 Origin: As appears in colophon on p.571, copied by Yūsuf ibn Khiḍr [Khaḍir] ibn Muḥammad al-Bāqānī al-Ḥanbalī. Given date of patronage statement and date of transcription given in second volume (Ṣafar 957 [February-March 1550], commissioned and copied by the same patron and copyist), transcription of this volume likely completed in 1550. Former shelfmark: From interior of upper cover "IL 264" (likely supplied by Yahuda). Binding: Boards covered in red cloth ; Type II binding (with flap) ; pastedowns and flyleaves in brown wove paper ; now sewn in white thread, two stations ; worked chevron endbands in red and yellow, quite good condition ; overall in fairly good condition with some staining, abrasion, etc. Support: non-European (likely Arab) laid paper with 9 laid lines per cm. (horizontal) and chain lines (vertical) grouped in threes with 10-14 between chains and 28-34 between groups (see p.62, etc.) ; sturdy and dense, well-burnished to glossy ; minor pest damage. Decoration: Keywords, section headings, and abbreviation symbols rubricated or in blue ink ; textual dividers in the form of inverted commas in red. Script: Naskh ; elegant 'Syrian' (Palestinian) hand ; partially but irregularly seriffed with slight effect of tilt to the left, curvilinear descenders (often sweeping), elongation of horizontal strokes, pointing in distinct dots, some free assimilation of letters.
