Dāwūd ibn Ayyūb ibn Aḥmad al-Jawraq [al-Jawzaq?] with transcription finished ("faragha minhu...") 6 Muḥarram 715 [ca. 12 April 1315]. Accompanying materials: a. Inventory cataloguing slip in hand of Winifred Smeaton Thomas. -- b. Acquisitions slip from Yahuda. Former shelfmark: From inner front cover and spine label, "IL 338a" (likely supplied by Yahuda, see acquisitions slip). Binding: Pasteboards covered in light brown and dark brown leathers with upper and lower covers mismatched ; Type II binding (originally with flap, now lost) ; upper board lining in laid European paper ; lower board lining in wove paper ; upper cover bears blind stamped mandorla (with vegetal composition, compare Déroche class. OSd 1) and pendants surrounded by tooled accents ; lower cover bears a tooled rule border ; sewn in heavy brown thread, four stations ; overall in poor condition with lifting and losses of leather (particularly at spine), abrasion and staining, upper cover detaching, etc. ; repairs to board edges in dark blue cloth ; housed in box for protection. Support: non-European laid paper (likely Arab, even Egyptian) with 6 laid lines per cm. (vertical) and faint chain lines apparently arranged in 4 sets of 2, with 11-15 mm. between the chains and 43-52 mm. between the groups (compare the Cairene paper of 1326 in Table III of Humbert). Decoration: Some abbreviations (sigla) and vocalization for basmalah and headings rubricated ; keywords set off with red accents ; textual dividers in the form of three inverted commas (in red) and letter hāʼ (outlined in black, filled with red) ; diagram in the margin of p.402 accompanied by a note (not in the copyist's hand) explaining that it replicates a figure inscribed in al-Jamʻ bayna al-Ṣaḥīḥayn of al-Ḥumaydī (d. 488/1095) ; it corresponds to a drawing made by the Prophet described in the ḥadīth alongside the figure. Script: Naskh ; bold, highly legible Egyptian [or Iraqi?] hand ; mainly serifless, though occasional left-sloping head serifs appear on medial lām, etc. ; alifs vertical and slightly tapered ; swooping descenders and frequent elongation of horizontal strokes ; both open and open and closed counters ; kāf mabsūṭah regularly employed, even for final kāf ; alif maqṣūrah often written with two dots above ; fully vocalized. Layout: Written in 21 lines per page ; frame-ruled (impression of ruling board evident). Collation: IV (8), 10 V(108), VI (120), 4 V(160), VI (172), 9 V(262), III - 1 (267) ; chiefly quinions ; quire numbering in the form of whole words appears in the top left corner of the recto of the first leaf for quires 11 through 15 ; catchwords present ; pagination in Western numerals, supplied during digitization. Colophon: "Scribal," reads: "تم ... ومنه والحمد لله حق حمده فرغ منه بتوفيق الله وحسن تيسيره في يوم الجمعة السادس من شهر محرم سنة خمس وسبعماية ... احمد بن ... داود بن ايوب بن احمد الجورق [؟] ارشده الله واصلح شانه وقضى حوائجه وحوائج المسلمين بمنه وكرمه " Explicit: "من الحسان قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم مثل امتي مثل المطر لا يدرى اوله خير ام اخرة" Incipit: "الحمد لله وسلام على عباده الذين اصطفى والصلاة التامة الدائمة على رسوله المجتبى محمد سيد الورى وعلى آله نجوم الهدى قال الشيخ الامام الاجل المحقق محيي السنة ابو محمد الحسين بن مسعود الفراء البغوي رحمة الله عليه اما بعد فهذه الفاظ صدرت عن صدر النبوة وسنن سارت عن معدن الرسالة ..."
