Ms. codex., Title from double-page illumination at opening preface., Incipit: "بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم رب تمم بالخیر هذا کتاب المثنوی وهو اصول اصول اصول الدین فی کشف اسرار الوصول والیقین ...", Collation: IV-2+2 (8), 5 V(58), V+2 (70), 2 V(90), V+2 (102), 5 V(152), V-1 (161), V (171), IV+2 (181), 12 V(301), I (303), ii ; chiefly quinions ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during cataloguing., Layout: Written in 23 lines per page with written area divided to four columns ; frame-ruled (impression of ruling board eviden)., Script: Nastaʻlīq (talik) ; compact hand in a medium line ; characteristically serifless with only slight effect of words descending to baseline (somewhat irregular), elongation and contrasting thickness of horizontal strokes, pointing in distinct dots, point of final or free-standing nūn often sitting above bowl with fairly narrow opening (elsewhere point set just down in wider bowl), mainly closed counters, hāʼ mudghamah looking like two inverted commas, sweeping stroke (shaqq / sar-kash) on kāf at varying angles (occasionally approaching vertical) ; headings mainly in tawqīʻ and thuluth., Decoration: At opening of each mujallad, elegant illuminated headpiece (ʻunwān / sarlawḥ) in the form of a rectangular piece with title in gold set in cartouche with delicate swirling vegetal motifs flanked by further motifs in gold, red, white, light blue, etc. on fields of lapis lazuli all surrounded by frames of gold and turquoise (pistachio) and surmounted by lapis bands (see pp.4, 104, 180, 288, 378, 486) ; double-page illumination comprising four of these rectangular pieces at opening of preface (pp.2-3) ; written area and divisions within defined by gold-rules ; headings rubricated, chrysographed, or in light blue or dark red-brown ; illustrated with 15 paintings following the typical cycle for illustrated Ḥadīqat al-suʻadā (Hadikatü’s-süada) manuscripts, certainly entered later than the original transcript and obscuring large sections of text (see pp.35, 76, 129, 176, 194, 230, 240, 260, 337, 356, 388, 415, 452, 511, 576)., Support: non-European (likely Persian) laid paper with roughly 8 laid lines per cm.
