Notes
Scanning from a substitute document. Work on ethics, by ʿAlî ibn Moḥammad al-Ghazâlî, who seems to have lived in the first years of the 16th century. The author reports in sixteen chapters, each of which is divided into three sections, reflections and anecdotes on the subject of virtues and vices. He says he took Moḥammad ibn Ibrâhîm al-Qoṭbî's غرر الخصائص as a model and wrote his work to honor a great character (المقرّ) of the court of the sultans of Egypt, named Qânṣoû. This is probably the one who, in 922 A.H., became sovereign of Egypt and reigned under the name of Qânṣoû ʾl-Ghaurî. The work has two prefaces, the first of which begins with these words: يقول المبتهج بظرف الموافاة المنتهج ;لطرف المكافاة على The second begins as follows: الانسان.
