Notes The third of 17 works printed by Ibrahim Müteferrika, "müteferrika" (house steward) to Sultan Ahmed III, and first printer of moveable Arabic type under Islamic auspices. Müteferrika was born in Kolozsvár, Transylvania sometime between 1672 and 1675, and converted to Islām after moving to Constantinople as a young man. Sample Text A history of Persia during the Ṣafavi era by the Jesuit Tadeusz Jan Krusiński. Krusiński's work is especially important for the description and analysis of the Afghan invasions from 1722 to 1727, which the author witnessed. Krusiński served as Jesuit procurator and secretary-interpreter to the bishop of Ịsfahān. According to W.J. Watson, the editor and printer, İbrahim Müteferrika, apparently translated and altered Krusiński's Latin manuscript; see "İbrahim Müteferrika and Turkish incunabula," Journal of the American Oriental Society 88, no. 3 (July-Sept. 1968): 437.
