Notes
Often those who were previously judged to be drowned were left behind (from gardens), meaning: orchards that are extremely abundant in terms of the goodness of the earth, the abundance of trees, the fragrant fruits and plants, and their beauty that hides worries. The generosity of the earth is indicated by the Almighty’s saying: (and springs and crops), meaning: what is less than the trees. Ibn Katheer, Ibn Dhakwan, Shu’bah, Hamzah, and Al-Kisa’i read that the spring is broken, and the rest are included, then he told about their positions, saying: (And a noble position) meaning: an honorable gathering in which a person is worthy, because in the end it is what pleases him. (And grace) which is a name for enjoyment in the sense of entertainment and easy and prosperous living. (They were in it) meaning: always (fruitful) meaning: Their action in their living is the action of the affluent person, not the action of one who is forced to establish himself. And the Almighty’s saying: (Thus) is a predicate of an implicit subject, i.e.: The matter is as He told us of their comfort, their expulsion, and their drowning, and that they abandoned everything they were in, and none of it availed them, so let no one be deceived by what they did. We afflicted him with blessings, so that we would not cause destruction to him as we did to them. And the Almighty’s saying: (and we made them inherit) means: those great matters are a sympathy for they left (a people) meaning: people with the strength to do what they try and it is confirmed that they changed them in order to drown them out with the Almighty’s saying: (others) who are not of them in anything and they are the Children of Israel, and it was said: others because they did not return to Egypt; Rather, they inhabited the Holy Land, and it was said: Their kingship connected from the Holy Land to Egypt, so they inherited its treasures, its money, and its honorable position..... (By God), that is, the One who encompasses all the attributes of perfection (the One of great bounty), meaning: He possesses a kingdom that does not cease, and no one owns it with him, and he does not dispose of it in any way at all, so he assigns to whomever he wants whatever he wants. Al-Bukhari narrated on the authority of Ibn Omar, who said: I heard the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, saying while he was standing on the pulpit: Your remaining among the nations before you is as between the afternoon prayer and sunset. The people of the Torah were given the Torah, and they worked with it until midday, then they failed, so they were given a qirat. Then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel, and they worked with it until the afternoon prayer, then they failed, so they were given a qirat by another. Then you were given the Qur’an, so you worked with it until the sun set, so you were given two qirats. The people of the Torah said: Our Lord, these people work less and are more rewarded. He said: Have I wronged you in any way from your reward? They said: No. He said: That is My grace. I give it to whomever I wish. And in a narration, the Jews and Christians became angry and said: Our Lord. Hadith, and in a narration: Your term is only in the term of those who came before you, as the period between the afternoon prayer and sunset? But the example of you and the Jews and Christians is like a man who employed workers and said: Who will work for me until midday until midday for a qirat? I taught the Jews until midday for a qirat. Then he said: Who will work for me from midday until afternoon prayer for a qirat? So the Christians worked from midday until afternoon for a qirat. Then he said: Who will work for me from afternoon prayer until sunset, will you not be rewarded twice? So the Jews and Christians became angry, and they said: We are more work, and less giving, God Almighty said: Have I wronged you in any way that is due to you? They said: No. He said: For it is My grace that I may bestow upon whomever I wish. And what Al-Baydawi narrated, following Al-Zamakhshari, that he, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: Whoever recites Surah Al-Hadid will be written as one of those who believe in God and His messengers.
