O He to whom all the pens of the understanding of the wise are incapable of multiplying His blessings, and who are at a loss to number half of the descendants that He has apportioned to His servants, and who overflow the breasts of His scholars with the lights of knowledge, and the piercings of the stars of opinions, and who direct the hearts of His saints with a good response on the Day of Judgment and Recompense! May peace and blessings be upon the one who corrected the noble Sharia, broke the idols of the people of desires, and made the eloquent Arabs mute and deaf with his speech, and upon his family and companions who warned of striking the necks of the enemies, especially the four proportional ones who did not make a mistake in analyzing shapes and the equal area of the road. As for what follows: Then the poor man says to God who is rich: Omar bin Ahmed, famous for his work and his knowledge: In the past, during the days of collection, and during teaching and disruption, I drew comments on the problematic topics, and warnings on the symbols of the problematic investigations; From the Baha'i treatise on arithmetic, well-known among people of understanding, and from the beginning of time to this time I have been passionate about collecting it, arranging it, setting it up, and composing it. How much I knew, and the determination was broken, and I advanced while understanding was delayed, since I am from a time in which ignorance became famous, and knowledge was as if it were not something mentioned, I studied the landmarks, and I understood their effects... So I seek help from God Almighty, and I began to say: (We praise you), I say: I add the name to praise by performing it. He added some of his beautiful blessings and a renunciation of his wonderful blessings, which included success for such a classification and scrutiny of the meanings put forth in this book and following the path of the righteous... His saying about arithmetic, that is: about the science of arithmetic by deleting the genitive to appear, or it is said that arithmetic is also a science like the science of arithmetic, according to what they said in Ramadan, the month of Ramadan......his saying about the shape of a bride is related to his saying, i.e. equating the square of the spear with the squares of the ten and the thing built in the shape of the bride mentioned in the forms of foundation, for it is clear. In it, for every right-angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse of its right angle is equal to the squares of its two sides, i.e., their sum. Here, after tilting the spear, a triangle occurs, one of whose sides is the inclined spear, the second of which is the two dimensions emerging from the water and the place where its head meets, I mean the ten cubits, and the third of which is the value of the absent person when it was centered in the basin before the tilt. The angle resulting from the second and third is right and the spear is its light, so its square must be equal to the sum of its remaining sides. It is the second and third, which is what is required, and the square of the second is one hundred, and the third is money, so one hundred and money is equivalent to twenty-five, money, and ten things. His saying: After dropping the joint, which is the twenty-five, and the money from both sides, there remain in the first side ten things equivalent to seventy-five in the second side, which is the first problem of the vocabulary. So divide the number, which is seventy-five, by the number of things, which is ten, and comes out seven and a half, which is the unknown thing that is absent in the water, and it is known that the one emerging from the water is five, so the total of the spear is twelve and a half cubits, which is what is required.
