Notes • Title supplied by cataloger from folio 86v., • Romanization supplied by cataloger., • Most pages have catchwords, 16 and 17 lines per page; Written in Naskh script in black ink with red rubrication., • Incipit, folio 64v: In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, and may blessings and peace be upon our Master and Master Muhammad and his family and all of his Companions. I know that rational judgment is divided into three categories, • Explicit, folio 86r: Then the void occurred this book called the Useful, without a doubt, and God knows best, • The text in Arabic. Interlinear and marginal Javanese notes and translations. Vowels and diacritics added to the Arabic text, some Arabic notes in margins., • Folio 83v is left blank., • Folios 85v and 86r contain Arabic notes on the bottom of the pages., • Written with the same hand in black and red. The text of Umm al-Barāhīn is written in red and the commentary in black., • The first 10 lines of the text were written on folio 64r, but in a reverse direction due to scribal error. The complete text starts again on folio 64v in the correct direction., • The text ends at folio 86v. Folio 87r contains 18 lines. These lines seem to be a continuation of another text., • Binding note: European-style laid paper with Dutch lion with a sword in a crowned medallion with and inscription of 'concordia res parvae crescunt'. Likely made by Jan, Claes and Aris van der Ley in Zaandik, Netherlands. Dluwang paper used in spine lining and first and last two folios. Leather binding with tooling, with fore edge flap.
Sample Text Part 5 of a multiple-text manuscript, a collective volume of eight texts bound together and written in one hand. Based on the interlinear Javanese translations and marginal comments, and the content of the volume, this manuscript was possibly used by a student as a text book taught in a pesantren (Islamic school) in Indonesia., A commentary and explanation of Umm al-Barāhīn of Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf al-Sanūsī in Islamic creed by Abū ʿAbd Allah Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān al-Jazūlī (d. 1465) (Soebardi 1975, p. 165).
