Ms. from the collection established in India before 1788 by Antoine Polier [comp. G. Colas – F. Richard, “The Polier collection of the National Library”, Bulletin of the French School of the Far East, LXXIII, 1984, p. 99-123]. In f. 1v shows Polier's rectangular stamp with Persian motto, dated 1181H.(/1767-8) and accompanied by a Persian notice from one of his secretaries indicating that this Koran belongs to "Major Polier". golden bands demarcate the columns of the holy text, which is copied – from f. 2v to 4 – against a background of golden field clouds; from f. 2v at 476 this background is also sandblasted with gold. Punctuation of golden balls. In f. 3v-4 floral decoration in the margins. The beginning of the Quran, in f. 2v-3, is copied in a double page with illuminated decoration (104 x 176 mm each): frame of floral cartouches with gilded field and blue fleurons, with polylobed gilded central dome; at the top and bottom, white titles in rectangles with a blue field with a central golden cartouche. Indian binding without flap, in brown morocco, the covers of which have a painted then lacquered decoration, with regular sowing of golden acanthus on a red field. The linings have a decoration, also painted, of a central plate in golden mandorla (OSd8 type decoration), fleurons and spandrels – with black field and golden motifs -, and highlights of golden designs, such as the fillet framing
