Pl. I Text with vocalization and orthoepic signs. Rosettes enhanced with blue separate the verses. In the margin, decorations in the shape of a scalloped blue and gold diamond indicate the groups of five verses; those of ten are indicated by golden eight-pointed stars, with floral decoration. At the head of each surah appear its title and the number of its verses in white ṯuluṯ characters on the golden background of a cartouche placed inside a banner. The volume opens on a double page where two rosettes appear, each of the eight branches of which bears a trilobed golden motif on a blue background with arabesque decoration, and the central golden circle of which is occupied by Koran XVII, 88 in white ṯuluṯ characters (ff° 2 v° and 3 r°); the rosette is itself placed in the center of a frame delimited on the four sides of the page by a band with a pattern of golden diamonds on a blue background interrupted by four triangular middle vignettes inserted in this band. The interior space is divided into three: in addition to the central rectangle with the rose window on a golden flowered background, two bands on either side have golden cartouches with Koran LVI, 77-80. The text of S. I and CXIV is inscribed in a polylobed mandorla placed in the middle of a frame (ff° 3 v°-4 r° and 448 v°-449 r°), defined on the three exterior sides of each page by a band with a blue background through which passes a golden sawtooth motif animated by a floral arabesque. A triangular middle vignette is inserted into this band. In the central part of the decoration, on a blue background where flowers and "clouds" mingle, several golden figures stand out - the central mandorla between two pendants and, on each side, two trilobed motifs. The beginning of S. II is placed under a blue frontispiece (f° 4 v°) decorated with golden diamond-shaped motifs; the text is arranged inside “clouds” on a flowery gold background (ff° 4 v° and 5 r°). The remainder of the text is inscribed in a linear gold, blue, red and green frame, on a sandblasted gold background. The middle of the volume is indicated by a framed double page (ff° 216 v° and 217 r°). Oriental paper. 450 fol. 389 × 255mm. 10 lines per page. Black ink, white at ff° 2 v°-4 r° and 448 v°449 r°. Writing surface: 198 × 123 mm. Quaternions. Oriental flap binding whose spine, restored, bears the number of J. B. Colbert; the cover, fitted with clasps, is placed on the upper plate. On both boards, large stamped gilded plaque whose central polylobed mandorla is decorated with a cruciform motif made using the sūẖt technique; the frame is made up of a succession of cartridges caught between gilded nets. The decoration of the dishes reappears on the covering; on the flap, inside a rectangle, figure Koran LVI, 77-80 (Comp. HALDANE, n° 96, similar flap binding.). The field of the contreplats is decorated with arabesques and stamped "clouds", arranged around a mandorla, made using the sūẖt technique - the background is blue, green, orange and yellow, a quarter of which is taken up to form the spandrels. The frame is made up, inside, of a succession of cartridges inscribed with Koran II, 255 and, outside, of a second band of cartridges decorated with a stylized plant motif made using the sūẖt technique on a background that is sometimes blue, sometimes green. This composition is used for recovery with the difference that the citation in this case is Koran XXXIII, 56.. A) Ff° 3 v° to 449 r°: Koran; B) ff° 449 v° and 450 r°: Fāl-nāme. Iran Bible. : The arts of Iran, ancient Persia and Baghdad, [exhibition, Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris, 1938], Paris, 1938, p. 174-175, no. 118; Treasures of the Orient [exhibition, Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris, 1972], Paris, 1972, p. 66, no. 181; The arts of Islam, [exhibition, London, 1976] London, 1976, p. 367, n° 626 and fig.. A waqf act in Turkish recalls that the volume had been constituted waqf in favor of the mosque of Yānīq (Györ in Hungary, cf. D. E. Pitcher, An historical geography of the ottoman empire, Leiden, 1972, p. 129) by Sinān Pā?ā on 12 muḥarram 1003/27 September 1594 (ff° 1 r°, repeated at f° 2 r°). Imprint of the stamp of Sinān Pā?ā (f° 2 r°). Waqf mentions (passim). Comes from the Colbert library. Notice in Latin by J. Ascari, from 1734.
