Other file(s) linked to this institution: FRBAMCCFR-000060-01b.xml. Turkish nestalik, from the first half of the 17th century. The author says, in his preface (folios 2 recto, 2 verso, 3 recto), that he was successively in the service of the sultans Mourad III (982-1003 = 1574-1595), Mohammed III (1003-1012 = 1595-1683), Ahmed I (1012-1026 = 1603-1617), and that he was presented to ʿOsman II (1027-1031 = 1618-1622) by Moustafa Agha. It was on the orders of ʿOsman II that he undertook the translation of the Persian epic; he adds (folio 2 recto) that at an earlier date, from the reign of Mourad III to that of Ahmed I, he had written or translated eleven works, among which a book of ethics, entitled ادیب نامه, dedicated to Sultan Ahmed, in forty ǧouz, the Book of Kings and the Guershasp name, in their entirety (sic), the Soleïman name, the Méʿariǧ el-nebouvvet, by Moʿin ibn Haği Mohammed el-Ferahi, the stories of the Seljuks, the Samanids, the Bouyyids, the emperors of the Osman dynasty; he also translated into Turkish the Tarikh-i Yemini, or story of Mahmoud the Ghaznevide, by Nasih ibn Zafar, and, in the preface to the copy kept in the British Museum, he states that he had composed in one year, under the reign of Mourad III, four works, the Shir-i dilir or Mihr-i Mounir, the story of Abou ʿAli ibn Sina, that of Sahlan ibn Shir, pleasant speeches that a beng eater had addressed to Sultan Mahmoud. This manuscript contains only a third of the Book of Kings, and its version ends with the death of Ǧerire, mother of Firoud (ed. Mohl., II, 636). We find, at the beginning of the volume, the history of the Book of Kings and the biography of Firdausi. Madhi has preserved in her translation many passages of the poem, and, in particular, the beginning of the chapters. Luxury manuscript, decorated with an illuminated sarloh in blue and gold, in the Persian style, and mediocre paintings, some of which were cut out from an older book.. Arsenal.. Turkish binding, in stamped leather.
