Notes Other file(s) linked to this institution: FRBAMCCFR-000060-01b.xml. Turkish writing, dated from the first ten days of the month of Safar in the year 1124 AH (March 10-April 7, 1712). He gives, in a pathetic style, the account of his sorrows, and especially of his affliction, when he lost the object of his love, which he insisted on burying with his own hands, while warning the reader that his words must be understood in a mystical sense, and find there the symbol of divine love; These kinds of novels, says Armain, in the notice he devoted to this work, are used in Turkey, and mainly in Constantinople, for the amusement of young people, and especially for the distraction of the čokadars, or lackeys of the imperial chamber. The name of the author is given on folio 66 recto, in the conclusion, as well as the title of this pamphlet; it was started during the month of Shavval, and finished on the first Safar, that is to say in a little more than three months, and the date on which it was finished is marked (ibid.) in a chronogram which indicates the year 1059 of the hegira (1649); it is dedicated (folio 6 verso) to Sultan Mohammed IV (1058-1099 AH = 1648-1687), to whom the author gives the very exaggerated title of “second Conqueror”. Luxury manuscript, decorated with an illuminated sarloh in gold, copied from the autograph manuscript.. Caylus.. Soft Turkish binding, in stamped brown leather.
