In f. 3, we can read that this text was written during the reign of al-Mustamsik (903-914 h/1497-1508) and that the history of the Abbasid caliphs with which this manuscript ends was to be followed by a history of the sovereigns of Egypt: Fatimids, according to al-Durra al-muḍīʾa of al-Saẖāwī (cf. ms Arab 1615³), Ayyubids, Turks, Circassians, until the reign of al-Qānsawḥ (906-922 h/1500-16). The date of Wednesday 5 muḥarram 1047/30 May 1637, corrected to 1041 and given as that of the writing of the text (f. 142v-143), which does not appear in the British Library manuscript, is more probably false than is the indication contained in the introduction. Furthermore, the 5th of Muḥarram did not fall on a Wednesday in either 1041 or 1047. The text which mentions without date the dismissal of al-Mustamsik may have been completed after his first reign. D. Wasserstein formulates the hypothesis of an attribution to Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad Ibn Iyās Same text as British Library or 6854 (BROCKELMANN (C), Geschichte der arabischen Literatur, Suppl.
