| Sample Text | The oldest Latin translation, which no longer exists, was made by Marius Victorinus in the fourth century. Boethius relied heavily on it in his translation. The oldest known Syriac translation was made by Athanasius from the Ballads in the seventh century. There are also old Armenian translations of this work. Ibn al-Muqafa translated the Introduction from the Syriac version into Arabic. With its Arabized title, Isagudzi remained for a long time the standard introductory logical text in the Islamic world and influenced the study of theology, philosophy, grammar and jurisprudence. Apart from adaptations and summaries of this work, many independent works by Islamic philosophers on logic are titled as Isaguj. Year of publication: 1689. |
