Sample Text Al-Jahiz was a celebrated literary genius from the beginning of the third century AH, and his book entitled Eloquence and Exposition is considered one of the four major classic works of Arabic literature. Often in his book he expresses great astonishment and great admiration for Ali's presentations. Based on his remarks, it is obvious that a large number of Ali's sermons were widely known to the people of his time. In the first volume of Eloquence and Exposition, after he mentioned that individuals praise accurate expression or even prefer to remain silent and disapprove of too much talk, al-Jahiz writes as follows: "Excessive speech that is looked upon with disapproval is empty talk and not speech that is fruitful and enlightening. Otherwise, Ali ibn Abi Talib and Abd Allah ibn al-Abbas would be people who talk a lot." Year of publication: 1729/30.
