Notes Sheikh Muhammed Nebhân (1900/1974) is a Sufi who lived in Aleppo in the 20th century and had important scientific and spiritual works. Muhammad Nebhan, who received permission from the Naqshbandiyya and Shazeliyye sects, lived a life outside the profile of a classical lodge sheikh. The Sheikh, who carried out guidance activities in Iraq, Lebanon and Turkey as well as Syria, pioneered social projects such as the renovation of the Kiltaviyye Madrasa in Aleppo, the establishment of the Islamic Development Society, and the conversion of the Montana Night Club into a mosque. Muhammad Nebhan, who was interested in trade in his youth, turned to science because he saw various spiritual signs. While he was doing scientific studies at the Husreviyye Madrasah in 1922, he met Ebu'n-Nasr el-Halef, one of the famous sheikhs of the region, who came to visit the madrasah and became his disciple. After a short time, his sheikh assigned him to have the hatm-i hâcegân built in the al-Bâbü'l-ahmer mosque in Aleppo. Although there were many scholarly figures in his teaching circle, the fact that Sheikh Abu'n-Nasr appointed him made him known by the public. Muhammad Nebhan, who stated that he experienced special spiritual states at the age of twenty-five, lived a secluded life for about ten years, and then became affiliated with the famous Shazelli sheikh Muhammad Hāshimī al-Tilmisānī living in Damascus and received the caliphate from him. Despite this, he was not a representative of either the Naqshbandiyya or the Shazeliyye sect, and carried out his own unique method of invitation. When he died, he did not appoint a caliph in his place, but advised his followers to live an ascetic life, not to deviate from the lines of the Quran and the Sunnah, and to follow the lines of the early Sufis.
