Notes
The Quran and the Sunnah have been two inseparable sources of reference for Muslims for centuries. Some individual approaches in the early periods aside, until the recent period, the Islamic society evaluated both sources together and read the existence of religion through these two sources. This evaluation is based on understanding and experiencing their functions in religion rather than assigning a position to the Quran and Sunnah. Even though they were discussed from different angles, almost no Islamic scholar separated these two basic sources from each other. Because Islam is the unity of the Quran and Sunnah transformed into meaning and life. Classifications regarding the sources of religion for various reasons such as education are aimed at understanding and livability. In recent times, there have been attempts to be content with the Quran and leave the Sunnah aside. Is it possible to separate the Quran and the Sunnah? Can the Quran be understood correctly with understandings that exclude the Sunnah? Is it possible to practice religion without circumcision? Can understandings based solely on the Quran be described as religion? In this research, these questions were examined with reasoned answers without breaking away from the theological ground. The scope of the research was limited to the verses related to the integrity of the Quran-Sunnah, which point out the necessity of the sunnah and its function in religion, and only references were made to the revelation dimension of the sunnah, evidence and examples on this subject.
