Al-Kindi is one of the first founders of Islamic philosophy literature in terms of both terminology and subject matter. Kindi's approach to humanity can be understood from his analysis of human nature. Kindi, who distinguishes between soul and body, has a dualist attitude. Platonic idealism and Aristotelian realism come together in al-Kindi's understanding of the human soul. Pointing out that there is a difference between the human soul and mind, Kindi underlines that they (the human soul and mind) will eventually unite. Thus he avoids making a sharp distinction between the two. Synthesizing Platonic and Pythagorean approaches on the human soul, Kindi gives the mind a metaphysical quality. Kindi, who evaluates human nature as thinking, living and mortal, points to the cosmological integrity of man as he has all layers of existence. As a result, Kindi adopts an eclectic style regarding human nature. The eclectic style also shows us that Islamic philosophy has characteristic and problematic aspects.
