Notes One of the natural disasters that leave people helpless are floods that occur as a result of heavy rains and can have devastating consequences. Mecca, which hosts the Kaaba and is the center of pilgrimage and umrah worship, has been exposed to many floods in its history. Mecca has faced frequent floods due to its location in a narrow valley, its climate and its location in a region with irregular rainfall. Naturally, the Kaaba was also affected by these floods, which occasionally led to damage or destruction of the sacred temple. In addition to the people of Mecca, the guests who came here for Hajj and Umrah were also affected by these floods; In these disasters, some lost their homes, some lost their livestock, and some lost their lives. Various measures were taken to protect against the damage caused by flood waters, but these measures were not sufficient to protect the city and the Kaaba. In this study, the flood disasters that occurred in Mecca during the time of the ʿAbbāsīs were discussed. These floods were listed chronologically, and some determinations and evaluations were made on the causes of the floods, the damage they caused, the loss of life and the measures taken against this disaster.
