Notes The love, affection and devotion shown towards the leader in society may cause his followers to think that he is a savior. Followers who could not accept this situation with the death of the leader; They can believe that he is not dead, that he will return and bring them the promised justice, peace and prosperity. However, the claim that the leader went into occultation after his death is among the prominent beliefs. The theory of occultation, which has its origins in various pre-Islamic religions and beliefs, was seen in many Shiite sects within Islam, and took its most important form in Imamiyye Shiite, which still forms an important part of their creed today. Muhammad b., who is considered Mahdi. It has been claimed that Hasan entered the occultation in 260/874, where there were ambassadors and he was in communication with his followers through them. It was claimed that with the death of the last ambassador in 329/941, he entered the great occultation, only to emerge at a time God desired. The followers, who expected the imam to appear in the early period, became suspicious about the belief in occultation as time progressed and especially as the period exceeded the average human lifespan. Shiite scholars, who wrote books on occultation, thus aimed to save the Shiite community from the trouble they were in. In this process, questions such as the life of the imam, his situation during the occultation, the duration of the occultation, and the theory of two occultations were asked, and various narrations were narrated in response to these. Accordingly, the article aims to examine the theories put forward around the belief in occultation, especially the origin of occultation, and to discuss the course of the said subject in Shiite literature in the early periods of occultation.
