One of the stories told in the Quran is the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt. One of the verses mentioning this event is 20/87 of Taha surah. is the verse. In this study, Surah Taha 20/87. The verse is being examined. The Israelites, escaping from Pharaoh's oppression, were trying to reach Palestine by crossing the Red Sea. The purpose of Pharaoh, who set out with his army, was to capture and destroy the Israelites. However, he could not achieve his goal and drowned in the sea. The surviving Israelites abandoned Moses' orders in a very short time. They worshiped a lowing calf that Samiri had made from gold. The reason for this was this: While they were on their way, they deceived the Egyptians and borrowed their gold/adultery. Although it is said in the Torah and some commentaries that Moses ordered this, the prophets do not order haram actions. The Israelites carried this forbidden gold. The word evzâr/awzâr is used in the Quran to indicate both the burden and the haramness of the carried load. They melted this gold and made a calf. Ultimately, they admitted that the gold they stole had caused them to go astray. Because doing something haram and aiming for personal gain in a work done for the sake of religion leads a person astray.
