The Holy Quran, the last divine message sent to humanity, has a wide content that will lead those who follow it until the end of time to happiness in this world and the hereafter. of the Quran; The clearest evidence of this claim is that it is the word of Allah, the possessor of infinite knowledge, who knows everything, past and future, hidden and obvious. Divine speech has a strong expression in terms of language and style that will convey this content to its addressees. The science of tafsir, which examines the words of the Qur'an in terms of their meaning, aims to present this rich content corresponding to God's will throughout history to the comprehension of the addressees. However; It is not correct to evaluate every interpretation of the verses in the tafsir literature within the scope of the declaration of divine will. While some of this information is aimed directly at explaining the meaning of the verse; Some of them consist of elaborating the meaning of the verse by using examples from different sciences so that it is firmly established in the mind of the addressee. In this context, the determinations and evaluations to be made regarding the relationship between the meanings derived from the words of the Qur'an and the divine will will determine the function of the science of tafsir. Muhammed et-Tâhir İbn Âşûr (d. 1973), who has recently attracted attention with his works especially in the fields of Arabic language, tafsir and fiqh, makes important determinations about the possibilities and limits of semantic expansion in the words of the Qur'an in the context of the purpose and function of the science of tafsir in the introduction of his voluminous tafsir al-Tahrîr ve't-tanvîr. In this article, the findings and evaluations put forward by Ibn Ashur on the subject and which can be offered as suggestions for the search for methodology in tafsir have been analyzed.
