Notes The stemmatic/family tree method has become a widely used method in the field of textual criticism, especially in the West. Its foundation dates back to the 16th century. dating back to the 19th century and the 19th century. This method, which largely completed its course of evolution in the years following the first half of the century, is based on the idea that there is a lineage-related relationship between manuscripts. In this article, the genealogy method, which consists of two stages: determination (recensio) and examination (examinatio), has been examined theoretically with reference to basic sources. As with every method, some criticisms have been directed to the family tree method. However, it is seen that the elements that make the method questionable are also present in other methods. Based on the emphasis on "common error", reaching a version of the text that is free from errors as much as possible, actually including all original copies in the research work, unlike other methods, presenting the aspects that are likely to be included in the text in the footnotes to the reader in the broadest and most comprehensive way, even though it makes the research activity more difficult and long-term, being usable more effectively than other methods in the critical publication of many texts, and the text being content to be based on a few copies. Features such as being more convenient in detecting and repairing some errors that cannot possibly be noticed in criticism methods will be very effective in making the genealogy method a strong alternative to other text criticism methods followed in the critical publication of classical works, especially in the field of Basic Islamic Sciences.
