Kant defines the concept of faith together with the concepts of understanding and knowing. These three concepts constitute three separate stages of the concept of fiinvahrlmlten. Fünvalrrhalten means to be sure of something, to consider something as true, to accept something as certain. In addition, Kant defines these three concepts with the concepts of objective competence and subjective competence. Accordingly, the opinion is the absence of subjective and objective competence. While knowledge refers to a state in which there is both objective and subjective competence, faith is a state in which there is only subjective competence. According to Kant, subjective competence does not represent an arbitrary and variable situation, but is based on the moral foundation common to all people. Therefore it provides more certainty than any other certainty.
