"Anne of Green Gables", a novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery, is discussed in this study, which includes literary translation and machine translation. A popular culture publication, the novel is a summary of events originally told in a collection of eight books. In this article, the differences between human and machine translation are examined, focusing on the importance of the human factor in translation. While conducting this review, online machine translation applications such as Google Translate and Yandex Translate were used. In this way, the differences between human translation and machine translation are discussed and the importance of the human factor in translation is emphasized. The final correction process made by the human translator aims to express the importance of the characteristics of the texts specific to the author and the work as a whole. In addition, this study aims to find an answer to the question of how literary translations can be made better in current technological studies on machine translation. In this study, an evaluation was made on the work's literary translation and computer-equipped machine translation applications. One of the goals is to show that popular culture publications, like many other types of publications, can be translated via machine translation. In the analysis, the "Rule-Based Machine Translation" method was preferred. This method, which allows the researcher to work more actively, has been shown to be more scientific than other types of machine translation. In addition, it has been observed that machine translation systems such as Google Translate and Yandex Translate are deficient in reflecting meaning-specific concepts and work with a system based only on a word-level structure. Nowadays, when machine translation has become widespread, it has been seen that effective results can be achieved with human intervention in literary translation, including popular culture works. In this process, the importance of the understanding, culture, perspective on life and knowledge of the translator who carries out the final corrections in literary translation is emphasized. It has been determined through the examples given that the final correction process, especially in literary translation, does not always mean reaching an effective result, and everything depends on the translator's culture and knowledge of literary translation. Explanations were made on this subject and the importance of translator's interpretation in literary translation was emphasized.
