Notes One of the elements that show legitimacy in religious-political-social discussions is that the issue in question is addressed by citing the companions. It is possible to see this situation regarding the Companions, which was not only encountered in the first generations, but also today. Ebû Zer el-Gıfârî (r.a.), who has been mentioned on different occasions since the early period, is one of the remarkable examples in this regard. He is mentioned a lot in the sources on issues such as his opinion on the zakat of the rich, his interpretation of the kenz verse, his argument with Muawiyah, his summoning to Medina by the Caliph Osman (r.a.), his exile to Rabeze, and finally his death there. It is enough to look at the titles of the books and articles written about Abu Zarr to see how his attitude towards these issues is connected with the ideological and social events of the last century. It is extremely striking that when talking about Abu Zer, topics such as labor, goods, capital and private property are discussed, concepts such as Islamic socialism and Marxism are brought to the agenda, he is presented as an anti-capitalist person, and his "revolutionism" is mentioned. The subject of this article is to discuss whether the information about him in the sources is sufficient to express an opinion on this issue. This will be done by comparative analysis of some of the expressions in popular works written recently.
