When the studies on secularization are examined, it is observed that, in general, the number of studies that deal with secularization at the level of a social phenomenon is much less than the studies that examine secularization within the framework of theoretical discussions. Although studies claiming that both secularism and desecularism are experienced are insufficient to provide factual data regarding the social appearances of secularization, it should not be ignored that each research undoubtedly contributes to the secularization literature. Factual data/research is needed to determine to what extent secularization occurs in the social structure and on which issues. The aim of this study, which was carried out with the assumption that secularization may be a triggering factor for Machiavellian behavior, is to determine the relationship between secular attitude and Machiavellian behavior in a sample of university students who are educated in fields with secular norms, who are assumed to adopt more secular interpretations with the effect of secularizing/transformative education and therefore may exhibit Machiavellian behaviors. The main problem of this research is to measure whether there is a relationship between secular attitude and Machiavellian behavior and to what extent university students exhibit secular attitudes and Machiavellian behavior. For this reason, the conceptual framework of the study dates back to the discussions of classical secularization theories and was created on the axis of secular attitudes and Machiavellian behavior. In this study, which was conducted using a quantitative research design, relational screening method, sampling method and online survey technique were used. Within the scope of the research, students studying at the undergraduate level at Osmaniye Korkut Ata University (OKÜ) were sent an e-mail and asked to participate in the survey voluntarily, and analyzes were made with the 710 survey data obtained. According to the results of the correlation analysis made with the data obtained, there is a significant and positive relationship, albeit at a low level, between Machiavellian behavior and the shift to a secular mentality. It has been determined that there is a significant and negative relationship, albeit at a low level, between maintaining religious sensitivities in daily life and the secularization of political authority, which are other dimensions of the scale, and Machiavellian behavior. According to the results of the regression analysis conducted to examine the effects of secular attitude dimensions on Machiavellian behavior, it is seen that only the dimension of shifting to secular mentality significantly affects Machiavellian behavior. In other sub-dimensions, although there was a low level of relationship, no interaction was observed.
