Notes
Working life presents various difficulties and inequalities for women. These are mainly due to gender inequalities for women. Gender-based wage discrimination also occurs as a result of gender inequality. The 1980s were the years when neoliberalism began to be implemented in Türkiye. The aim of this research is to examine the reflections of gender-based wage inequalities in the textile industry and the problems experienced by female workers by looking at the implemented neoliberal economic and wage policies. This research was conducted using in-depth interview and participant observation methods, and the data was analyzed using the discourse analysis method. In general, it has been observed that female workers working in the textile industry experience gender-based inequalities and, accordingly, wage inequalities. In addition, problems arising from the characteristics of the sector, such as long working hours, low wages, and the working environment that threatens human health, have also been identified. In addition to the abundant literature on this topic, this study highlights the gender basis of wage inequality. As a result, the problems experienced by women in employment processes, workplaces and dismissal processes were examined.
