Notes
In this study, the role and function of zêwin, which we can call carnival, festival or festival in Southeastern Anatolia, in the construction of solidarity and integration in society is touched upon. At the same time, the socio-cultural meaning of zêwin and what it produces on a social basis are discussed. Individuals come to their ancestors' lands and organize festivals and feasts in unity and solidarity around the graves. These activities, which are carried out without conflict between different tribes and villages, have important functions that strengthen solidarity and integration in society. Zêwler is among the important events for the allocation and production of solidarity, integrity and unity by the society. In our research, the activities in Tur Abdin, an ancient and sacred region in Southeastern Anatolia, will be discussed. In the phenomenon of visiting, rituals are performed that indicate both a spiritual connection with the sacred and a collective entertainment culture on the social level. During Zêw festivals, some sacred rituals are performed such as commemorating ancestors, spiritual satisfaction, prayer, making vows and making wishes. In addition, potlac-like feasts are held during zêw. The activities exhibited during Zêw, the javelin game, which are forms of entertainment shaped by the local culture of the region, the musical instrument of the harp, and the halay culture that extends for kilometers, also display a syncretic quality in the same place. In the study, Seyyid Bilal and Sheikh Hasan Zêws, which are one of the most famous zêw festivals held on different dates and places, will be discussed. The economic, political, socio-psychological, cultural and historical functions of zêws in the region have been revealed. In this context, the data obtained by conducting in-depth interviews with 20 participants were analyzed. In the conclusion part, the data obtained will be discussed through ritual, symbol and belief.
