Notes Citizens of the Republic of Turkey of Arab origin living in the central districts and villages of Şanlıurfa province, as well as the entire districts of Harran and Akçakale, a large part of Viranşehir and Ceylanpınar, and some villages of Siverek, Birecik and Hilvan, use the local Arabic dialect in their daily speech. This dialect exactly reflects many features seen in classical dialects, such as kesşe, istintâ, teltele, imale, 'an'ane, ekelûni'l-berâğîs. The Harran Arabic dialect has been transmitted orally between generations since the time when Arab tribes settled in the region and has survived to the present day. During this process, some changes naturally occurred in the dialect. Over time, some changes have occurred in the original forms of words. These changes are seen in issues such as the pronunciation of some sounds, syllable order, the meaning of words and the production of some alternative words. In this research, the issues related to the signification caused by changes such as semantic expansion, semantic narrowing, and semantic shift in the words used in the Harran Arabic dialect are discussed. In addition, the use of alternative words in this dialect instead of words used to express a meaning in Modern Standard Arabic has been examined comparatively.
