Notes In addition to his identity as a mutakallim, commentator and jurist, Imam Maturidi, the founder of the Māturīdiyya sect, who was born in Samarkand, within the borders of Uzbekistan today, and lived during the Islamization process of the Turks, also has some records in some sources about his Sufi side. Imam Maturidi's interpretation, especially on the issue of person and attribute, is important in terms of the concept of unity of existence. While Mutezile did not accept the attributes of Allah, Imam Maturidi said that Allah has attributes and that although they are not the same as Allah's essence, they are not separate from his essence, which later influenced Ahmed Yesevi's understanding of Sufism. The fact that this theological interpretation complies with Anatolian Sufism's concept of unity of existence paved the way for Sufis to approach humans and creatures with great love and tolerance. Therefore, it can be said that Imam Maturidi, who played a major role in the formation of literal Islam and contributed to the Islamization process of the Turks, also had a great intellectual share in the Islamization of Anatolia. In this study, we will try to determine the traces of the Sufi culture dominant in Samarkand, where Imam Maturidi grew up, on his versatile scientific personality, as well as the effects of his ideas on Anatolian Sufism.
