Decorated Kufic script began to appear in Anatolia with Seljuk architectural and written works. While it was seen that decorated Kufic script was used as an ornamental element in many architectural structures during the establishment and development of the Ottoman Empire, its use in the architectural field gradually decreased in the 16th century. With the mihrab script of Kağıthane Sadabad Mosque, which was completed in 1863, the use of decorated Kufic script began to be seen again in Ottoman architecture after three centuries. Ebüzziyâ Mehmed Tevfik Bey carried out many studies with decorated Kufic script in different fields at the end of the 19th century, and thus pioneered the spread of decorated Kufic script, which had been abandoned for three centuries, in the last period of the Ottoman Empire. It is seen that the use of decorated Kufic script was preferred in many Ottoman architectural structures built in the last period of the Ottoman Empire. Especially Sultan II. It points out that the decorated Kufic script practices in official institutions in Ottoman architecture during the Abdulhamid period were consciously preferred by the state administration because it was a different and innovative approach in line with the goal of modernizing the country and building a new identity. Ornamental Kufic writing began to appear in Anatolia with Seljuk architecture. While the ornamented Kufic script was used as an element of decoration in many architectural structures during the development period of the Ottoman State, the use of the decorated Kufic script has gradually decreased since the 16th century. The ornamental Kufic script began to be seen in Ottoman architecture again after three centuries with the altar writing of Kağıthane Sadabad Mosque in 1863. At the end of the 19th century, Ebüzziya Mehmed Tevfik Bey started to use the ornamental Kufic script in different fields such as architecture, decoration, textile, publishing, and thus, he pioneered the widespread use of the ornamental Kufic script, which was abandoned for three centuries. In many Ottoman period buildings, known as the First National Architecture Movement, between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, it is seen that the ornamented Kufic script was preferred inside the buildings and on the plates of the institutions. Especially Ottoman architecture of Abdulhamid II period indicates that the state administration consciously preferred ornamental Kufic writing as a different and innovative perspective in line with its goals of modernizing the country and building a new identity.
