Considering the historical process, sociological classifications lead us to a distinction between traditional and modern. This distinction represents a change and transformation rather than a break from the previous period. From a sociological perspective, postmodernism is part of the modern age. Therefore, it is very difficult to call it an era or a new era. Posttruth, the "devaluation of truth", can be described as a situation in which the modern age repositions itself. This situation is imposed in various ways, both through sociological intermediaries and by using various geographical and historical elements. Society's culture, norms, value system and way of giving meaning to life have a very important place in this process. Consumption is the most natural aspect and the most natural phenomenon of man. Likewise, ordinary daily movements and the existence and continuation of human life are directly related to consumption. It is possible to see the phenomenon of consumption even in societies that are considered primitive in sociological context. Consumption ideologists naturally took advantage of this historical change and transformation and repositioned themselves. As a reflection of this change process, today individuals can look at objects not only for consumption purposes but also for pleasure, ostentation and status gain. Zygmunt Bauman and Jean Baudrillard thought in detail about this aspect of consumption and made important criticisms about the nature of consumption. The main purpose of this study is to clarify the posttruth situation in the light of the periodic change of consumption and to evaluate the consumption-related motivations of the posttruth situation through the ideas of Baudrillard and Bauman. Thus, posttruth, a relatively new concept in contemporary sociology literature, will be re-examined and the ideas of two important sociologists will gain a new influence in this field. This study will also enable us to understand posttruth better, and on the other hand, it will serve as a source for new studies on both Bauman and Baudrillard.
