Ahmet Ağaoğlu and Babanzâde Ahmet Naim are two intellectuals who lived in the last period of the Ottoman Empire and the first years of the Republic and left their mark on that period with their writings about the religious, political and social developments in those periods. The issue of morality was one of the most talked about issues of the period. In a social structure where rapid change and transformation is experienced, individual and social morality has been tried to be shaped within the own systematics of each movement of thought. In this article, we tried to identify and evaluate the views and opinions of Babanzâde Ahmet Naim, who was distinguished with his Islamist views, and Ahmet Ağaoğlu, who was more influential with his pro-Turkist ideas, regarding the practical aspect of morality. While Ahmet Naim defends a morality based on religion/Islam, Ahmet Ağaoğlu, although partially accepting that religion has a say in the field of morality, takes a stand in favor of a rationalist-based morality shaped by modernism.
