Determining the reasons for the occurrence of hadiths is extremely important in terms of understanding the narrations correctly and making accurate judgments from the hadiths. When we look at the historical process, it is seen that the first person who drew attention to this issue was Imam Shafii, as in many hadith sciences in the period of mutaqaddimun. He pointed out that not hearing the reasons for the answers given to the hadiths meant that their nature was misunderstood. In the hadith method books written during this period, there was no separate title regarding the subject. However, as reported in the sources, there are some independent works from the ancient period, although they have not survived to the present day. The first of these is the work written by Ebû Hafs el-Ukberî (d. 339/950). It is seen that during the period of Mütaahhirun, the study of causes became a part of the hadith sciences. The first scholar to use Esbâb-ı vurud as a concept is Ibn Dakîk elÎd. (d. 702/1302) It is Bulkînî who deals with Esbâbu vurudi'l-hadîth as a hadith science in hadith method sources and opens an independent title. (d. 805/1403) The works that were written during the period of Müteahhirun and have survived to the present day are Suyûtî's (d.911/1505) Esbâbu vurudi'l- ḥadîs ev el-luma' fî esbâbi'l- ḥadîs and İbn Hamza's (d.1120/1708) el-Beyân ve't-ta'rîf fî esbâbi vurûdi'l-ḥadîsi'ş-şerîf. The fact that the authors who wrote works on this subject are also jurists leads us to the conclusion that the issue of causes has passed from the fiqh circles to the hadith world. In this context, in our study, we will try to reveal the stages that the science of esbâbu vurudi'l-hadith has gone through in the historical process. Starting from this point in our study, we aim to contribute to the science of hadith by revealing how the issue of esbabu vurudi'l-hadith followed a course in the historical process.
