Notes This article aims to reveal the reasons and manifestations of the resistance put forward by the clients during the counseling process of spiritual counselors, how the counselors show the ability to cope with this, and their effectiveness in bringing the issue they discuss in the interview to the spiritual field. In this qualitative research prepared in case pattern, the study group was formed by snowball and chain sampling method. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 people, 6 women and 4 men, between the ages of 30-55 (average age 38), who are currently working as spiritual counselors in hospitals in Istanbul, have been in this position for an average of 4 years, and have mainly postgraduate education. With descriptive analysis, analyzes were made on themes related to (a) the definition of a spiritual advisor, (b) the spiritual advisor's competencies against client resistance, (c) the appearances and reasons of resistance, and (d) the methods they use to overcome resistance. In the face of resistance that spiritual counselors encounter from their clients; It has been determined that they cope by giving confidence (i), creating a friendly environment (ii) and directing the conversation correctly (iii). It has been highlighted that the course of the counselor progresses to the spiritual field by guiding with questions (i), using counseling skills (ii), progressing according to the client's belief (iii), giving confidence to the client (iv) and encouraging the client to open up the spiritual point that he/she cares about (v).
